Mt Hawkins, 03-05 June 2017
For Queens Birthday we climbed Mt Hawkins via a new route from the Mahitahi.
We noticed the beautiful summit cone of Mt Hawkins on a previous trip to the area:

On the same trip, from the Morse/Mahitahi confluence, we noticed a large gravel gully as a possible access route to the tussock tops on the north face of the peak. The gully worked a treat and conditions on the upper steep tussock faces were brilliant given the time of year. South-easterly gale on the summit day spiced things up and unfortunately obscured what would otherwise be outstanding views. Party: James Thornton & Nina Dickerhof
