Styx to Kokatahi, 06-09 February 2015

The idea for this trip came after spending some time reading hut book entries at Boo Boo Hut last September about the section between Crawford Junction and BooBoo Hut. Sounded like a either a complete nightmare or at least a good off track adventure was to be had in there. Additionally, the Remote Huts website says that "the route achieved considerable notoriety among trampers". Of course we were interested and a good foreacst for Waitangi day and a third keen mad tramper aka Dave, saw us heading to the lower Kokatahi via the Styx and Lathrop Saddle. Day 1: Up the Styx to Browning Biv. Day 2: Climb of Mt Lahtrop and crossing of Lathrop Saddle to Top Crawford Hut, then down to Crawford Junction Hut for the night. Day 3: Down the Kokatahi to Boo Boo Hut and out to the road. Party: Dave Laffan, James Thornton and Nina Dickerhof
